Family Reunions

Family are like branches on a tree, we grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one.

We ALL know that our lives and our world can feel like a never ending emergency - and sometimes just making it through the day can be a struggle.

So we collect our scars which are physical and psychological reminders of what we've been through or of who and what we lost.

But maybe those scars can be more - maybe they are a testament to the fact that we are STILL HERE!  We are all breathing, we are all blessed, we are all healthy enough to be here, most importantly we are all thankful for each other!

Like the church says - hug someone and tell them you are thankful they are here!

WE ARE EXCEPTIONAL and WE ARE the Lindo-Wright Family!

2021 Family Reunion

The Black Family Pledge

By Maya Angelou

BECAUSE we have forgotten our ancestors, our children no longer give us honor.

BECAUSE we have lost the path our ancestors cleared kneeling in perilous undergrowth, our children cannot find their way.

BECAUSE we have banished the god of our ancestors, our children cannot pray.

BECAUSE the old wails of our ancestors have faded beyond our hearing, our children cannot hear us crying.

BECAUSE we have abandoned our wisdom of mothering and fathering, our befuddled children give birth to children they neither want nor understand.

BECAUSE we have forgotten how to love, the adversary is within our gates, and holds us up to the mirror of the world shouting, "Regard the loveless."

Therefore we pledge to bind ourselves to one another, to embrace our lowliest, to keep company with our loneliest, to educate our illiterate, to feed our starving, to clothe our ragged, to do all good things, knowing we are more than keepers of our brothers and sisters.

We ARE our brothers and sisters.

IN HONOR of God and in gratitude, We the Lindo-Wright family's make this pledge.

We are bringing the Family Reunion to Jacksonville in 2023 to honor the legacy of Beverly Barnette and Elena Johnson along with all our families from Atlanta, Texas, New Jersey and other Florida cities.

The 2023 countdown begins, we have less than a year until we all meet again in Jacksonville Florida for much love and fellowship with each other! We are planning to do a 3-day event starting on Friday, July 21st at the Beach/Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, then on Saturday, July 22, from 12-6pm - we booked the City of Jacksonville Parks & Recreation Community Center for the Lindo-Wright Family Reunion and last on Sunday, July 23, big breakfast at cousin Sonia's house.
